Windows live writer

By: Dennis Rongo | January 28, 2008

This is my first post using windows live writer and I don't usually believe in third-party applications (especially adding extra clutter to my PC) unless it's useful enough for everyday use. There was too much hype on Live writer that I couldn't resist the need to try it. I have 2 weblogs that I post on, on a regular basis but often the blogging interface lacks the more advanced functionality that I needed to add posts. What I like about the Live Writer is its ability to add a post to a hosted blog within a desktop application. In an essence, it provides convenience since I don't have to log-in to multiple sites to post, which also saves time.

It is smart enough to detect the settings and the type of blog engine that it is being used to properly configure itself to connect into it. The installation was a breeze although it took about 5 minutes to install and configure 2 web logs that I'm going to be using. The only downfall or I should say that needs to be improved in the future is probably the ability to edit posts. I can edit posts that were written using the live writer but previous posts aren't accessible for editing. While examining the interface, it has some nice advance editing capabilities that can be useful for adding tables, and inserting media (pictures, videos, etc.), spell-checker and other formatting. A huge undertaking that goes with blogging is having to browse the web site and log-in before making an entry. Since Live Writer is accessible through my desktop icon, I wouldn't be hesitant to make a new post once an agenda crosses my mind. I like it so far.
