This is my first post for 2008. I can only imagine how many people have a list of New Year's resolution. As the title implies, I never believe in it or if I ever had one, I called them 'short-term' goals. A common among the top lists is to lose X amount of weight. While this is a good realistic goal, about more than half of these people fail to reach it. While failure can be disappointing, the main reasons they fail to reach their goal is often caused by either impatience, lack of motivation or unsatisfactory results. Half of the time, the reason why a particular program doesn't work is because of a.) lack of consistency, or b.) they did little or never did the research to come up with the proper 'solution'.
Here's a list of common pitfalls towards successful fitness:
1. Their commitment to losing weight is geared towards short-term solution rather than a life-long change and commitment.
2. Their commitment is not 100% there, which is also related to lack of consistency. Lack of consistency warrants unnecessary excuses such as failing to commit to a diet for a week then promises to come back the next.
3. Neglects the importance of proper balance between diet and gym time. While being in the gym consistently week after week, diet is as much as important as its counterpart.
4. Lack of persistence. There is no such thing as a quick fix and everything has to be earned the hard way, day after day, months after months. The bottom line is, never give up towards accomplishing your goals. Consistency is the key here!
5. Burnt out. There are times when pushing ourselves to the limit is acceptable and there are also times when we have to refrain ourselves from overdoing things especially when training. Two-hours of training per day for example can lead to overtraining, which in turn becomes more harm than beneficial. As you train longer than an hour, your body will excrete cortisol as working out produces the stress.
6. Lack of supplementation. When you engage in any physical activity, your body will demand much more nutrients from your body. While food provides the necessary vitamins, minerals and proper nutrients, it is not enough to support our bodily functions. Not having enough supplementation only increases our body's vulnerability to illnesses and weakened immuned system.
7. Neglects the importance of diet. If you're not eating right, chances are, you will fail...miserably. In my experience, I attribute most of my success more than half of the time to proper nutrition.
If you can follow through that list, I can almost guarantee you success.
That's all for now. Happy new you!
