The value of passion

I was in the gym today at around 2:30 in the afternoon, there are plenty of things running in my head. While I consumed a protein shake and some oats an hour before working out, I can't help but feel weak. Maybe it was the lack of carbohydrates or solid food intake for the day but regardless of how I felt, I was there for a reason...and that reason is to workout hard and lift heavy. I then started thinking of what kept me going through those years of being consistent with my workout routine. I might not have the 100% energy that I wanted or the motivation at all times but I was there in the gym making sure that I get a great workout. To endure the workouts is one thing but what kept me going was my undying passion to improve my body and become better each time. When I started working out about 7 years ago, I decided that if I'm going to do something such as starting a workout regimen, I wanted to become the best as I can be at it. If I didn't know the proper way to build muscle, then why even waste my time in the gym? There were also times when my body was tired or my focus was not there. My philosophy in training is, if I can't give it my 100% then why even waste my time being there? Over the years, I have learned to differentiate when I'm just making excuses not to go versus, I'm just completely not ready.

To be able to become better physically, I knew that I have to first train my mind and so I read hundreds of pages of articles, books, magazines, etc. I allocated hours of learning proper nutrition in order to ensure that I was making the gains at a highest rate possible. Looking back now, I can honestly attest that being passionate about things that I like is the key to becoming successful. While I was wholely referring to bodybuilding, I believe that this can also be applied in business or anything in life. Before I pursue an activity or a task, I have to ask myself first if this is something that I really want to do. If I can't give 100% of my time, effort and be passionate about it, then why should I even waste my time. Being passionate about something gives me reason to keep going, continuously grow either mentally or physically in able to become the best at what I'm going after. It is the undying pursuit of growth through learning new things is an advantage towards becoming the best at what I do. When things go bad, being passionate about something is what fuels me to work harder and endure the challenges up ahead. It is the fire that keeps me going in reaching for the top.
