I read an article written on FastWeb web site stating different reasons why someone shouldn't just enter into a graduate program. In one sense, the underlined statements were true and factual since a lot of students believe that having a graduate degree allows them to become more recognizable in the world of employment. A lot of people who have earned a bachelor's degree who hasn't found a "decent" job believes that pursuing an advanced education will hopefully solve this issue. It might be true but for the most part, there's plenty of work that needs to be done outside of the academic environment. In addition, the article also states that some people enters the graduate programs just because everyone else is doing it. I sincerely believe that this is also one of the wrong reasons for pursuing a higher education and thus needs further consideration if the objective was clearly defined on what we are trying to accomplish.
It has been two months since I graduated and right before my graduation, entering the MBA program was something that I set aside as a goal in the future. After doing my own research and some thinking, I finally have come to realization on why I need to pursue an advanced degree such as MBA. First, I can focus on a certain area of interest such as finance and enhance my background in the area, which can lead to a better resume'. Second, since I believe in continuous education and learning, this is a great way to elevate myself into the next level and learn new things at the same time. Third, being back in the classroom environment again introduces me to a new set of individuals which potentially is great for building up my network and business colleagues. Fourth, you can't pay a price for an education and I believe that education is the greatest investment that anyone can embark themselves into. Although college is full of stress, difficulties, and even disappointments, at the end of the day, there's something that can be learned from it. When it comes to college, I always say to myself, "if it was easy, then everyone will be doing it."
I'm going to take this one step at a time and my goal at the moment is to take the GMAT within the 3-4 month period while I prepare for it. GMAT is an intense 3 hour adaptive computerized test that requires a lot of mental stamina. This is the golden key to get in a MBA program and results are recorded and reported to institutions, so a strong preparation is a must. Leading up to it, I'm going to read several books that will aid me to get a good grade so I can enter any school that I desire. I just ordered two books and when it arrives, I will be on top of my reading and make sure that I get plenty of practices before the day arrives. There's no turning back now. I know that I have the required skillset and the mindset for passing it but I also feel that the outcome will all depend on the amount of effort that I put in it.
